Chris, N9WIV, was asking about the availability of the Kenwood SO-1 TCXO
module. I suspect that there haven't been any available from dealers for
about 10-15 years. They were an option for the TS-930 & 940 back in the
1980s. The newer rigs use the SO-2 which is also a 20 MHz part, but operates
from a different supply voltage. The pin-out may also be different.
After listing a 'WANT' on about a dozen Internet ham swap-shops, I recently
found an unused SO-1 ( for my TS-930 ) which I purchased from an estate
sale.
It appears that the original owner had loaded up his new 930 with all of
the filters and outboard speaker and had also purchased the SO-1. He never
installed it, perhaps because he found that it's not a "plug & play" item;
i.e. you have to unsolder and remove a handful of parts from one of the
circuit boards before installing the SO-1 in their place.
I'm sure there's more out there, but you'll have to dig deep. I can't find
evidence of any that have ever turned up on e-Bay that weren't already
installed in a rig. A 930 or 940 that's being parted-out might be a source,
though. Good luck es 73.
