[Kenwood] 690 internal tuner failure

I picked up a Kenwood TS690 last weekend in a trade that has a non-working internal tuner (I knew this beforehand).  Opened the case up yesterday, and everything is hooked up to the tuner ok in terms of wires and connections.  Is there a common problem that caused these tuners to fail?  It seems that the tuner is not getting any power, or the radio and tuner are not talking to each other, as when I put the tuner switch in the auto position, and push the AT TUNE button, nothing happens.  No tuner light, sounds or anything.

Any help would be appreciated.
