[Kenwood] SM-220 Flexible Couplings

The plastic flexible coupling on the Function Switch of my SM-220 cracked
right across the setscrew holes. The one on RF ATT is beginning to crack.

After 45 minutes on hold with Kenwood, I was informed they are no longer
available. This site mention on the Kenwood reflector seems to have a large
variety of couplings:

Is it necessary to use an insulated coupling? Or could a similar slit-type
metal coupling be used?

Anyone know of a source for ones like the originals?
