Hi Bob,

I have had some experience with some of these headsets in my job as a network 
broadcast engineer.

To begin with, the mics are designed with no "bottom end" for obvious 
reasons. In a race car environment, you can imagine that there is an overabundance of 
low frequency noise. Secondly, these mics are normally installed in a noise 
cancelling type capsule and require close talking. Most of these mics require 
some voltage to operate and that varies according to manufacturer. They are 
frequently run through a central distribution circuit which contains an amplifuer 
and possibly additional frequency response shaping.

Mi advice is to try and determine the manufacturer and write them giving a 
description of the headset and requesting system information for it's use.
I have a 940 and all mics I have tried to use with it seem to work fine, but 
I have not attempted the use of a communications type headest mic, other than 
one what was specifically designed for amateur use.
