[Kenwood] 'Tricking' the TS-440 filter selection

Yes, I did that kind of thing for CW though.  I had it select wide for SSB,
and narrow SSB for CW.  I would then manually select narrow CW when needed.

(SSB auto-selection) to the CW pin.  You would could put the WHITE lead (CW
auto-selection) to whichever filter you would like auto selected there
(could be CW also).  

I had gotten the narrow SSB when I bought the 450Hz CW filter.  I thought it
too narrow for SSB, so used it for wide CW.  I don't see why you could not
put the 450Hz (or 500Hz) in the SSB spot and the narrow CW in the CW slot
and put the leads as you desire.  Remember the "Wide" position is the stock
filter.  You can still manually select another filter.  Also, the INRAD
filters have a tighter skirt so appear narrower with the same width as the
Kenwood filters.

Greetings all,

Is it possible to 'trick' a TS-440 into going into narrowband by lying to it
about what filter is installed?  

I run a lot of PSK-31, and with NO filter installed on my rig, I've got too
many problems with QRM.  I'd like to put the narrowest filter possible into
the rig (the YK-88CN is 270 hz... which is really still pretty wide for
PSK-31... I'd like to go even narrower), but according to the chart in the
-440 manual, with a YK-88CN installed, the bandwidth is not affected in USB
mode (where you need to be for PSK-31).  Can I move the jumpers around to
make the radio select the narrow filter in USB mode as well as in CW?  What
about the INRAD filters (or any others)?
