[Kenwood] there is no such thing as a stupid question

Ok guys, don't chuckle, remember I am an OT. I am replacing
a couple transistors that require the mica insulators and
heatsink compound. My question is this: do you apply the
heatsink grease on both sides of the insulator or just
against the heatsink?
I have done this many times with regulators but they use a
case ground, and lots of transistors where no heatsink is
required. My huge library of books never mentions this
situation except in generalities, no specifics.
Thanks and listening for the chuckles anyway. Hi,Hi
