[Kenwood] TS 450S/AT Tuner Problem

I have a TS 450S/AT that seems to have an intermittent problem with the auto tuner. When the rig is first powered up, the tuner light come on and stays on, although the auto tuner itself does not seem the be activated. This is "resolved " by touching the AF Tune button twice. All seems to work properly at this point. The SWR is in range and I start looking for DX.

When I subsequently change bands, the auto turner does its thing. Sometimes, it's just fine. That is, it seeks the optimal set point and all is well. At other times, it seeks an optimum set point and the tuner light will stay on. Again, touching the AF Tune button twice will get things normal again. This occurs with any of the antennas (quad, loop, vertical) and the dummy load. Other than this one issue, the radio works fine an all bands.

I do have it set up through a linear amplifier (which generally not in use) and tuner (Ameritron ATR-30 which is generally set to bypass the tuner).

Has anyone experienced this or have any thoughts?
