[Kenwood] "New" TS-940S

I have an immaculate 940 on the way to my shack, 6 million series serial
number. I really like the radio, both for its performance when operating
properly, and just the looks of it. The 950SDX may be the best ever of
Kenwood's amateur rigs, but it doesn't look as pretty as a 940. I'm
really into big radios and boatanchors---at 40 lbs the 940 qualifies. I
just sold my 756PRO Icom....the front end was as wide as a front door
due to no filtering at an early IF stage. Frankly, the current crop of
has radios has a goodly percentage of units that remind one of a
consumer VCR....lots of plastic here and there, and thin gauge sheet
metal for the enclosure.

Yes I know the 850 is probably a better rig, but I like to have an
analog meter on my radios.

However, I am aware of the common problems this rig has by doing a bit
of research on this forum and others. In the event I ever need service,
does anyone know of a technician who specializes in Kenwood radios you
could recommend? The major manufacturers service centers are problematic
at times. I also understand that the guy who runs Avvid has retired.

Wish me luck.
