Conrad,

You don't really need to use the IF-232C - there are other CAT control
interfaces out there much cheaper.  If your computer has USB ports you might
want one that uses USB rather than the serial port (serial ports are
disappearing on new PCs).  have a look at the Microham stuff at
 http://www.microham.com/USB%20interfaces.html#model1
but there are others...
