Subject: [Kenwood] SSb filters for Kenwood ts 940

Rick,

Using a pair of 2.1 inrads (#s 94 & 96) in my 940, I've been in a number of SSB contests and found that they perform very well. What they won't do is eliminate the KW contester who points his beam at me during a contest! (In the Washington, DC area, there are several).

However, if you look at the Sherwood dynamic range data, which is available online, you will find the the TS-930S has a 2 Khz dynamic range of 73 compared against the ICOM IC-7800 at 78! (I assume the 940 is as good as its predecessor). #1 is the Tentec Orion with 1 Khz roofing filters at 92.

I had someone install the filters for me and since you're probably going to send your rig to John, KI4NR to be repaired--as I am shortly for a tune-up--he can do that for you. BTW, I've also just bought the PIEXX TS-940 interface board to enable PC control of the rig, and I plan to have John install it.

The 940 is one of the better rigs Kenwood made and you will like it. I bought mine in 1987 and intend on keeping it! Hope your back gets better and you finish your tower project.

Hello All
I have a sick TS-940 that I will have to send to a shop to be repaired.
While it is there I figured that the repair guy would do a better job of
wiring in the SSB filter that I would do.
I already have an Inrad 2.1 for the 8830 IF but I would like to know the
thoughts of the list on which to install in the 455 IF. I checked the Inrad
site and see that they no longer offer the 1.8 filter for either IF for the
940,the choices are now 2.1 or 2.8. So would I want the same filter in both
slots or do I want the wider filter in the 455 slot? My primary activity is
contesting and DXing SSB only my cw skills are not up to par yet.
Right now I am QRT until I finish the tower work ( it has been a loooong
project) and right now I'm laid up with a back injury so I can't do anything
out side
I did check the archives on both lists and didn't find anything useful. If
this is has been discussed before I didn't find it
