[Kenwood] TR9000 FREQ READOUT FAULT

HI ALL.
          I wonder if you have owned a TR9000 and did you ever have a 
frequency readout intermitant fault with it, where the radio worked fine did 
not go off freq
BUT the readout changed to a faint red figures and different number digits ,

Wonder if you found a solution/cure/repair  ?

Think someone told me years ago that it was caused by the use of 2 metals in 
the connecters
that reacted with each other after a while .. do not know what truth there 
is in this ??
