Marty,
I have a TS-480HX and run it mobile every day. But I don't have the
FT-1000 or the 756 Pro II so can't compare them. As a mobile rig, I love
the 480HX. I am unimpressed with the DSP noise reduction, and still use my
Clear Speech speaker. But the noise blanker and DNL are terrific.
Would I replace either my 850 or 870 with the 480HX? No way. First and
foremost the detached control head, in my opinion, is great for mobile use,
but dumb for base station use. But again, that's my opinion.
I replaced a TS-50 with the TS-480HX and am not sorry I did. There's
nothing wrong with the TS-50, but the TS-480HX has a few more bells and
whistles, plus the extra power is an added bonus for mobile use.
>From what I know of the Yaesu and Icom rigs you're mentioning, I don't
think the 480 would be a step up. Maybe someone else on the reflector has
one of those rigs and can answer your question in greater detail.
