Hi Marty,
 
At the risk of sounding uninformed arent you comparing apples to oranges?  
The Mark V field is a competition grade transceiver that puts out 100 watts. The 
 480sat also puts out 100 watts and is considered a mobile? Im not a Yaesu 
snob  but I dont think the 480 and the field are in the same league. Maybe the 
2000  and the field you could compare but dont think Kenwood wins that one 
either. I  think you would see a big tradeoff between the rigs. But, I own the 
Mark 5 200  watt version and not the Kenwood just to let you know where Im coming
