...guys, bear in mind on crucial point: the SWR meter is by itself designed
for a particular Zo. Soooo if you match let's say, the 2000 ohms mentioned
above, to some load, different from 50 ohms, everyone will bw happy if you
get a match. The tubes in the rig will see their 2000 ohms and the load will
see the impedance that it likes. Everyone, that is, except the wattmeter
that all of a sudden finds itself working in an environment very far away
from 50 ohms, for which it was designed.
Long ago, before coax went all the rage, we used monimatches: they were
designed for indicating the relative power so that you could see the effect
of what you were doing and were not overly sensitive to the line impedance.
You just tuned for minimum reflected and maximum forward indications. We
couldn't care less if that optimum setting was at an outlandish impedance
level.
Tune and load! If the finals' current stays within the normal range, you're
doing fine. Don't look at the VSWR because you have no idea at what
impedance level you are.
