[Kenwood] 599D Twins info needed

Hello to all.
 I am sure some or all of these questions have been discussed before,but I am a new member of the list so please forgive me.....
 
I have a set of 599D Twins. The rcvr has been moded to use the DG-5. My question is will the DG-5 work in the AM mode or just SSB? I do not have a DG-5....yet.....but would like to know if anyone else has a set up like this.
 
 Next.....anyone know how/where to get the plug ends to make the interconnect cable?
 
Last....any known,good mods (TX audio,rcvr improvements,etc?) for these nice rigs?
