[Kenwood] TS-600 question

Ahoy! From an estate, I just acquired a grubby and forlorn looking
TS-600 6 meter all-mode transceiver, with microphone, but without
manuals. I brought it home and turned it on. It appears to receiver
normally, but will not give any evidence of being able to transmit. I
noticed there's a 9 pin miniature socket on the rear panel for a VOX
accessory that didn't come with the radio. Nothing is plugged into this
socket. Remembering how the TS-520 series has a similar socket for the
remote VFO and won't work unless a VFO or a plug with a jumper is in
that socket, I wonder if the the TS-600 is the same. I plan to order
the manuals, but in the meantime, can anyone advise me on what I should
do to get the rig at least try to transmit.
Also, if owners and former owners have any advice about repairing and/or
using this little beauty, please advise.
Thanks and 73,
Mike Steussy AE4R
