Hi George,
This is the way it was explained to me. First of all, you have to
know roughly what year range the radio model in question was produced. The
950SDX was an early 90's to early 2000's radio.
The first digit of the serial number minus 2 is the year, so your
950SDX was produced in 1992. The second 2 digits denote the month--yours is
April. The rest of the digits are like a car serial number--they denote the
build number. So, in deciphering your radio, it was produced in April 1992,
and it was the 119th unit produced that month. Someone please correct me if
I'm wrong, but that is the way it was explained to me.
My 950SDX is serial number 00700004, which translates to July
1998, and I bought it brand new in January 1999.
