And he is as always correct, had the exact problem with mine a few months ago...

You can't get the replacement caps from Kenwood though, and an EXACT replacement
may be difficult to find (impossible?).  There is hope though:

has a capacitor that is physically the same size.  It's a dual section
50/50 500V part.  Just connect the two halves in paralell.

Before you do the job, pick up 2 470K resistors, and two .01 Mfd 1 KV
disc caps to replace the originals (you probably won't be able to use
them after they come out).  The original resistor was marginal at 1/2
watts, so go for a 3/4 or 1 Watt part.

Here's the part number for the cap.

(Clif, still haven't found the problem with the ALC on 40 meters!)
