[Kenwood] TS-940S 3of10 bands virtually dead

Yup, Been there, seen that...
   Check the band switching diodes that switch in the band pass filters
in the front end.  They usually get zapped due to static, lightning or
RF from another rig getting into the front end.  You probably wiped out
two bands worth of them.  7MHz and 14/18 MHz if I remember are two
different sets.

Hi All,

My TS-940S is barely receiving on 7,17,20.

Down 25-30db in a side-by-side comparison.

Attached a TS-830S onto TS-940S antenna

lead for equivalent receive-only side-by-side

test.   Bands 160,80,30,15,12,10 had equal

receive of signals and strength.  The 7,17,20

meter bands of the 940 are virtually dead.

e.g. on these three bands, if we found a

signal on 830 that was 25-30 over S9 then

it was just barely audible on the 940.  Any

signals less than 30over on the 830 were

not heard at all on the 940 for these three

bands only.

Has anyone heard of such a set of symptoms?

7,17,20 almost dead and all three have an

equal level of reduction in signal levels,

approx. down 28-30db.  Could a single problem

affect this collection of 3 bands? Is this a known

problem with a known fix, or is it time to send it

in for repair?


Any ideas?
