[Kenwood] Ref: TS-2000 Low S Meter Reading

Glad to help Steve,

As Cliff said, Kenwood uses a 20 microVolt signal at
midband (around 14.2 MHz) to calibrate the S Meter
to S9 reading. The old IEEE standard, and Ten-Tec
still uses it, is 50 microvolts.

For some reason my personal mail to you is being bounced back, but it does
not appear to be from your
ISP - looks like a Spam Filter is doing it. That is why I
am replying to you via the net.

By the way, just thought of this. Sometimes the mechanical portion of the
meter movement gets sticky.
Before you head off to the store, disconnect all leads
from the rig, hold it upside down and give it a few good
shakes in an up and down motion. That might just do the
trick. It might also tell you if a screw or washer got left
in by mistake on the assembly line.  :-)  :-)

Hi Larry, thanks for youre response to my question about the S-meter. I will
try to get the radio up to the store where I got it some time in the next
few days and see if they have a sig gen I can borrow. If it is something
that is wrong with the radio, then I can just leave the radio with them for
a while and have them deal with it - the are an authorised service dept.
