[Kenwood] TS 870?????

I sent an email to Kenwood customer service in WA regarding the SN, 
manufacture date of a TS-870S about a week ago.  I received a reply that there is no 
way to tell from the SN when a TS-870S was manufactured.  Further, Kenwood 
stated they had no references of actual manufacture to answer the same question.  I 
am traveling right now and don't have the response to quote but that is their 
story.

So, it looks like maybe the formula might have been valid at one time but is 
bogus now.  This would certainly look probable in light of the February 2004 
manufacture date as quoted.

BTW, how do we think the 870 performs as a CW box in comparison to the 
TS-850S??????
