[Kenwood] TS 870?????

Hello all,, can some one tell me about the serial numbers on the 870 how =
to read  i have a older one and just got a new one and it has serial =
numbers starting with 51100017 i though they should be running higher. =
Would also want to know what my old one is, sincerely harold n5tog
