[Kenwood] TM-241A help requested

Hi Group

Buddy of mine acquired a very nice Kenwood TM-241A (2 meter) with a problem.

The lithium battery was changed by the previous owner, and now the radio comes
up as
a UHF (70 cm)...

No amount of resetting or fiddling, including removing the backup battery
will restore the radio to 2m.

I have acquired a service manual for the radio, but before I dive into the
radio, would you put put a request for info or help on the Kenwood reflector
for me please?

Anybody got any suggestions. (Other than scrap it ?  )
