[Kenwood] ts870 vs ts 2000

Hello Elan,

I have these 2 radios side by side on my desk. My opinion is this: If you
have a very weak signal, and there is little close in activity on the band,
The TS2000 with the preamp turned on will sometimes hear better. The notch
filter on the TS2000 is also better, I think. It has the capability of being
turned to manual control and the TS870 does not. The extra bands are nice
too.

On the other hand, when contest season starts, I will be using the TS870 for
both CW and SSB. The TS2000 with the preamp on is slightly more sensitive,
but once the bands are busy, the extra gain in the front end is not usable
routinely.

The transmitters both get good audio reports and easily make 100 watts on
all bands. I use a Heil Goldline on both radios.

I hope this is helpful, as usual- this is only my opinion, your results may
vary......
