Shotgun techniques:

Reseat the plug(s) that connect wires from the front panel RIT/XIT switches and controls to the controller board.  Look for rosin on any switch board and/or the controller pc board.  If boards are coated with rosin, remove with denatured alcohol, a paper towel and toothbrush.

I recently corrected an intermittent frequency instability in a Heath SB-1400.  The solder side of the board was clean, but a droplet of rosin was found on the component side between two leads of a transistor in a crystal oscillator circuit.  I removed the transistor, cleaned the board and the transistor, put the transistor back in, and the set is now stable.

  Hi all.  This morning when I started this rig, the dial read exact frequency of a 7 MHz MARS net I was to be NCS of.  Started to call the net and got no response. Turned rig off and back on and found the net right where it was supposed to be.  Seems the Oscillator jumped about 12 Kc down both on transmit and receive.  Any suggestions.  This is the second time in about 6 months that this has happened.
