[Kenwood] TS-830 POOR receive

The receive audio is VERY VERY poor. I can only pickout one HIGH power religous station and legal limit cw stations(Ive only heard two and they were at the bottom of the 40m band). My coax is new and the antennas just had there yearly maintenence.(Cushcraft R5, Cushcraft 40-2CD skywalker)I have absolutely no problem with another rig.
I love this radio and dont want to sacrafice it to the radio gods or spend a ton of money either. I checked r37 on the rf unit and shielded coax and connectors/crimp pins.
Also did a thorough cleaning and checked all grounds.
Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
