[Kenwood] 742A Panel Issue

The white lettering on the panel of my 742A, i.e., call, shift, etc., is 
flaking off.  I asked about this in the past and someone was helpful enough to 
advise that they thought Kenwood had issued a recall on this problem.  Contact 
with Kenwood revealed this wasn't the case.

Has anyone ever replaced this part?  Looking for info as to how tough it 
might be.
