[Kenwood] TH7A(G) Help

I have bought a TH7A(G) and while it works well in the normal mode   trying 
to get it to operate on APRS is a real nightmare.  I am nearly bald now from 
tearing my hair out in desperation !!!  Can anyone help.
  I have tried every combination of wiring my Garmin 48X into the TH7 GPS 
input wiring and yet when I go to the Menu  "Position "  I do not get any Lat or 
Long come up.  Can anyone tell me what could be wrong.   Let me say before 
hand that I am in the "Nmea" mode and the correct Nmea 0183 2.0,  4800baud out 
from the GPS.
