I would like to offer my TS-850S/AT for sale. I would like to make a
local sale (or meet with the buyer somewhere nearby) if possible.
Always better to demo the rig and handle it in person.
This 850 is an early serial number (2 million). All the DDS chips have
been replaced so that the usual worry about its reliability is gone
(these chips were the subject of the Kenwood Service Bulletins about
early failures). Clif at AVVid has serviced this rig and it is working
quite nicely. I haven't used it much for the last few years since I've
been antenna restricted and took a liking to my Ten Tec OMNI VI.
I have the stock filters removed and replaced with INRAD 2.8 kHz crystal
filters in each of the two IF's. They are really the same bandwidth as
the Kenwood filters but have steeper skirts. Both nicer audio and
better QRM rejection result. (Slope tuning is quite useful with the
better filters). I would sell this rig for $790 with the pair of
INRAD's in it. I have the original box, manual and mike (and a very
nice second box for double boxing.) I also have a footswitch and studio
mike (an amazing Radio Shack product that surprised me) I would throw in
with the deal. Very, very nice audio without being "wideband," just
sounds plain good.
I would also consider uninstalling the INRAD's and putting the stock
filters back in. I would then consider $650 for the rig.
I always like to consider trades and offers.
