[Kenwood] TM-261A questions

I have just acquired a used 261A and it seems to work fine but has one 
small problem.  The squelch seems very 'tight'.  What I mean by that is the 
squelch know is fully open at the 7 o'clock position, and if I turn the 
squelch to the 10 o'clock position the squelch closes, and at the 11 
o'clock position the squelch is preventing my local repeater from breaking 
the squelch.  I have also noticed that the squelch seems a little 
'unstable' if set just passed the point where it turns off the audio output 
when no signal is present.

So my first question is has anyone else experienced anything similar to 
this?  And second, does anyone have the schematic for this radio that they 
could scan or photocopy and send to me (electronic or snail mail - I will 
be glad to cover the costs).
