[Kenwood] amp interface question

Hello,

I have a Kenwood TS 870 S and want to connect it to an Ameritron AL 811 
(600 watts out) amplifier.  I have a W2ENY amplifier interface for the 
connection.  The Ameritron manual states that it is not necessary to make 
an ALC connection if you intend to run 70 watts or less from the exciter 
into the amplifier.  Was wondering how most folks make this connection--use 
the ALC connection or not??

Been in the hobby a while and this is the first time I am using an amplifier!
