[Kenwood] rig rumors?

Darrell,

I am not so sure that Kenwood may more on target than Icom and Yaesu. From
my location, there seems to be lots and lots of new hams in the hobby.
Admittedly, this can be tied to your location and can impact your
perspective. 

However, all these new hams I meet are really into the digital modes and
especially into VHF and UHF. It is a different move in the hobby and Kenwood
seems just fine in that arena. Seems to me that the users of these high
dollar radios are older -- perhaps, however, because they are the only ones
with the money to buy them! I have been around the hobby long enough to
remember that in the 1960's the hobby's demise was predicted because of the
move from AM to SSB.

I believe Kenwood is reading the writing on the wall. Amateur Radio is a
dying hobby and soon to be a poorer market for them. They are probably
concentrating their technology and marketing resources on the general
electronic consumer market. If Yaesu and Icom were as diligent, they would
be doing the same.
