Rick, Larry:

My XYL Cheryl bought mine in December 1982 from Electronic Center
Inc.(a.k.a. ECI) in Dallas TX, which is no longer in business. SN is
30401XX. She paid about $800 for it new. She was six months pregnant
with our second son and actually had to ask someone to carry it out to
the car for her since it was a surprise Christmas present for me that year.

My Elmers, both now are SKs W8EEY and WD5BOW, Paul and Vera Woodland,
had an 830 when I went through their Novice class in late 1981 early
1982, which is one reason my XYL, who didn't get her license (KA5REQ
then) until 1983. Paul and Vera lent me a Yaesu rig and 15m dipole
until Cheryl bought me the 830.

Tom, WW5L, ex KA5OOC.
