[Kenwood] FW: TH-D7A(G) programming via USB to Serial Adapter

I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and still no luck.  I know that
the adapter is working as I can disconnect the D7 and connect to the console
port of my Cisco PIX-501.  When I use Hyperterminal the com port adapter
works fine with routers and such.  I even tried to connect to the TNC of the
radio and it seems to get data from the radio.  I just can't get the program
to communicate.  Any other ideas would be appreciated.

P.S.: The com port adapters are set to com1 and com2.

Robin,

Your biggest problem will be getting the usb adapter on com 1~4.  They are
the only com ports that the programming software will use. Also you may try
different brands of usb adapters. I have seen where some will work with on
one brand of computer and not on another. You may want to repost your
request including the brand of laptop and the brand of adapter, and maybe
some one has been down that road and will be able to give better suggestions
as to what worked for them.

I know what OS you have on your PC.  I bought a Logitech UB to serial
adapter
and it came with software on a CD.  I had some problems until I loaded the
software (Windows 98), after which the adapter came up as Com4 and worked
like a charm.

Since your laptop has no serial port, I assume it's a recent macnine with
XP.
Try removing the Kenwood software, connect the USB/serial dapter, then
reinstall the Kenwood s/w.  If you loaded the s/w without the USB/serial
adapter 
in place and working, then the s/w doesn't know there's a serial port on the
machine
(except for the modem) and doesn't know where to connect to talk to the
radio.  If
you remove the s/w and reinstall it with the adapter connected and working,
the
s/w should find the serial port and work fine.

Let me know if this works.
