[Kenwood] VFO-240 on TS-530S problem

Everything is happening as you describe except I have no apparent
receive when the VFO is plugged in. No signal, no static.

If the cable is plugged into 530 and not your external VFO your 530 will
be
inoperative.  As long as both ends are plugged in all will be well.  The
display will show the external VFO frequency when the switch is in the
RMT
position.
