Hello Bill, you are right, it's a key bounce problem. Some people
say it's due to a smoker's environment, others state that it has a
greater chance to happen with little use, so using all keys frequently
prevents this problem; the contacts below are made with a sort of
rounded spring metal, which make contact with two circuit board pads
with pressure. These springs are all located below an adhesive foil (I
think some times if the foil adhesive vapour that may show with thermal
cycles did not corrode the contacts); keep track also of the numerous
tiny screws which fix in place the board.
I twice tried to clean them, with good success in one rig and in the
other a little better only; it's a difficult task also to clean them
wihout loosing any single one (they like to jump, as happened to me), so
hold it tightly when cleaning; I did the job with a soft non metallic
brush turning at few revolutions with my Dremel.
After that, be patient to re-locate them in place and after this to
locate the adhesive foil.
Hope this helps
Good luck
Guillermo - LU8EYW.
