[Kenwood] MC 60A question

Hi,

Why is the preamp useless for SSB?  I have had mine on all the time since I 
had it.  I just switched it on and off and noticed the decreased sensitivity 
with the preamp off.  The imp. switch on top also affects the sensitivity of the 
mike, I guess for how far you may speak from the mike or how loud my voice is 
at the time.  I welcome your comments.

I use the MC 60A primarily with my TS-950SDX and sometimes with my TS-870.  
Before that with the TS-940 and TS-850 and TS-440 and TS-430 that I enjoyed.  I 
use a TS-50 for occasional mobile contacts and emergency use.
