[Kenwood] Dig. Freq & Parts for KW 599s

To read the transmit frequency when you key the T599 transmitter, get a
small signal diode; connect several inches of wire to the anode side;
connect the cathode side to the input of the counter; lay the wire
somewhere near the transmitter or antenna tuner. Most of the time there's
enough stray RF to trigger the counter. Your problem is when you transmit
on SSB or CW. On SSB there's no RF unless you say something. On CW
there's no RF unless you key down. So using it this way, the counter will
probably not react fast enough to give you a reading when talking on SSB
or sending CW. On AM, since you have carrier whether you talk or not, the
counter should work. One solution would be to get a DG-5 and a DK-520,
Digital Adapter. The DK-520 was designed to provide interconnection
between the analog TS-520  and the DG-5 Digital Display. Since many of
the oscillator/VFO signals in the 520 are similar to the 599 series,
connection to the 599 should not be that difficult.   Another solution
would be to contact Almost All Digital Electronics
http://www.aade.com/#dfd . They have a number digital displays that can
work with a number of different receivers and transmitters.
