Also, remember that one the interference issue, the courts, and the FCC =
have
exerted the FCC's absolute right to be the SOLE regulator in this area =
(in
other words, a local zoning authority does NOT have the right to limit a
communications company's attempts to install equipment based on =
potential
interference). There was a recent case in Tacoma that got overturned for
just that reason - so, trying to get the local authorities to even =
RECOGNIZE
the interference issue is a LOSING battle.

The best two approaches I can think of would be:

1)  Work the sympathetic reporter for all she's worth and get press =
reports
of REAL interference; and show her WHY this is a 'bad thing'.  TVI would =
be
great if you can find a case of that, since John Q Public relates a =
whole
lot better to that than to a 'hobby' like Ham Radio.  If you've got some
examples of how Hams helped during Isabel, and how BPL would hinder that
help in the future, that would be goodness.

2)  If you DO find interference, and can document it; then INNUDATE the
local FCC office (as well as the company) with DOCUMENTED cases of where
they've busted the (current) Part 15 rules - not rants, or threats, or
half-done complaints, but DOCUMENTED (time, date, frequencies, =
recordings)
cases.

It was skreiger.  the 'e' and 'i' were reversed.

I just spoke with her on the phone and she's been inundated with=20
calls, including some from her father, who's a ham.

I suggest we not criticize 'one-sided' reporting because she's
definitely not an electronics type.  she was just doing her job
and reporting on something new in the area.  Naturally, the BPL ISP
wasn't going to touch on the interference potential.

She (Sari Krieger) is preparing another article on BPL and will,=20
I trust, report on the interference issue.  Let's not shoot the
messenger, folks.  Instead, let's help her gather the info and report=20
it.  I told her about interference not only to amateur radio, but
also to commercial international broadcast, TV channels 2 thru 6,
U.S. State and Defense Dept. long-range HF communications, etc.  I
also told her that several European countries have kiboshed BPL
because of the interference issues.

I agree, let's make noise, but let's make the right noises and
send them to the right places.
