The Kenwood TS-850 was first produced in 1989 and was in production through 
1996, when the TS-870 replaced it. Early production models had some parts 
problems that were corrected in the later production runs. I would try and 
find a "later model" 850 with a serial number starting 3xxxxx or 4xxxxx.

With a search you can also find a "users group" for the TS-850, with
