Well, what you need to ask is:

1) My new transceiver will be useabe for at least 10 years....how long
will you be wearing that new dress?

2) My new transceiver has a resale value of $xxx.xx...what is the
resale value of your new dress?

-and, while we are on the subject or money...

Someone the other day mentioned about selling his rig and they taking
the money  and spending at strip clubs.  That started me to thinking on
what a wonderfully INEXPENSIVE HOBBY ham radio is;

For example, if you go to a bar or strip club once a week, I am sure
you will drop at least $25 to $50.  Therefore, over the course of a 52
week year your are going to spend $1,300 to $2,600 and, for all intent
and purposes, have nothing to show for it.  Now, just think of the
great radio equipment you could buy with that same amount of money. 
Equipment that would give you many hours of enjoyment year after year.

Note: This may not be the best argument to use the next time your wife
wants you to take here out ;-)
