[Kenwood] R-5000 in trouble

Thanks to all who toke the trouble of answering my message.

No, I don't leave the receiver unplugged for more than one day or two.

Another symptom which can be relevant (just noticed it) is: the 
receiver is unaffected by the 'dots syndrome' when running in VHF 
(with VC20 converter). Does this says anything to anybody?
