[Kenwood] TS-790; Frying Sound in RX on 70cm FM

Hi readers,
I'm writing to learn what any of you may have to say about an anomaly I'm 
having in my TS-790 on 70cm FM.
I get a frying sound under the audio whenever the squelch is open, even 
with strong signals; it sounds like a weak signal noise, but the S meter 
indicates S9+40 on a local UHF repeater. On 2m, the RX sounds as it should, 
strong signals yield full quieting, no white noise under the audio.
I wonder if something is mis-alined in the 70cm RX chain.
