Here is what is needed to display APRS positions on a Garmin GPS V connected
to a Kenwood TM-D700. They are loaded to the GPS unit as waypoints.

The Garmin GPS V needs firmware version 2.20 or higher, available at
http://www.garmin.com/support/download.jsp. That version added the "NMEA
In/Out" menu item.

Add the following setup steps to those listed in the product manuals:

   - Select "NMEA In/Out" from the GPS V Interface Setup menu.

   - In the TM-D700 menu 3-2, select "NMEA" as the GPS unit.

   - In menu 3-3, select "8 DIGITS NMEA" as the format for waypoint output.

Just sharing the results of a few hours of research and experiments. I got
some clues from earlier postings to this list. I expect that this list is
where other people who want to know would look for the answer.

73!
