[Kenwood] Kenwood TM-733 DuoBander Abnormal Indication

My TM-733 is very ill.  The unit will indicate -ON- in the LCD....before it 
is even turned on.  Immediately when power is applied the indicator 
indicates -ON-.  The power on switch does not do anything or at least it 
doesn't appear to do anything.  No receive, no other displays.  Does it 
require some sort of "reset"?  I have reseated the front panel several times 
hoping that was the problem.....but no change noted.

Any suggestions short of sending it off to the Kenwood Service Center?
