[Kenwood] Memory Batteries TS850 & TS940

Hi Phil,

This battery has solder tabs with "pins" to solder the battery directly to
the pc board on the radios.  There are several options:
1.  Buy the Kenwood replacement part.  Expensive, and will require doing it
again 5-15 years from now.

2.  Buy a CR2430 from a battery store such as Batteries Plus.  They will
charge about $3, but will spot weld solder tabs on for free.  You can then
trim the tab to fit inside the solder hole in the pc board.

3.  Buy a coin cell holder and put it into the pc board, then buy a generic
CR2430's (I bought a card of 2 for a little over $2 at Wal Mart) and put it
into the cell holder.  The holder fits just right into the spot for my
TS-450 which specifies the same Kenwood part number.  Even though it only
has two holes and the Kenwood battery comes with 3 pins, two of those pins
are tied together on the pc board.  DigiKey carries the holders for about
$1.

4.  Solder a pair of twisted leads to the battery spot and put a battery
holder somewhere more accessible to the radio.  This doesn't seem logical
since the batteries can last as much as 15 years if you use your radio a
lot, but the shelf life of a Lithium cell is less than 10 years and if you
mount the battery in another area, you also control where it will leak if it
ever does.  There is a history of batteries leaking in TS-850's and
dissolving traces.

It would also be a good idea to write the date of the last battery change
somewhere on the radio.
