All I know is that with my TS-950SDX, the menu gives me the choice of putting the auto tuner in or out of the RF input. Having it out is better for signals below 1.8 for the medium wave, but better in some cases for ham band signals. The TS-950SD might not have this choice available. Call Kenwood or ask Cliff...
