The ideal would be to turn it on in receive when wanted, turn it off when
not wanted.
I do not want the tuner in my 850 to activate on receive, as it is usually
used only to smooth out the input of my amplifier. I have no need of it on
receive, as absolute maximum sensitivity is seldom needed on HF.
If the original poster is really seeing only "1 to 3 dB" difference with a
tuner, that is half an S-unit or less, right?
I could not find a mod for the 950, but the mod for the 850 is at
www.mods.dk.
