I'm assuming that you are talking about "making a super radio" out of your
870. I replaced the stock filters in mine, wiring them in and sticking them
to the insides with double sided tape.
Inrad sent me the mod sheet and some small diameter coax with the filters
once I told them what I was up to. Nice touch I thought.
Anyway, once I got the filters installed, I drove a CW signal into the ant
port and tweaked the transformers on the I/Os of the filters ever so
slightly and listened to the signal. By ear, I can say that they sounded
pretty centered and I don't think I gained anything in that step.
As far as the benefit of installing the filters, It definitely changes the
properties of the DSP operation and the excellent rx audio has remained. I
wish I could have a modified and un-modified radio side by side for a few
days to really get a feeling for the difference. Overall, even though I
still have the original filters, I've no plans to reinstall them.
