[Kenwood] TS-530S Display

A friend, 1,500 miles from here, acquired a nice TS-530S that has been
unused for awhile. Unfortunately, the digital display doesn't work. When you
power up the radio, you can see a flicker on some of the figures, but they
don't stay lit. He tells me there are a number of tiny connectors going to
the display board. He said he carefully tried to push the connectors
together, but nothing changed. Any suggestions?
